Coventry University

Coventry University

Coventry University is one of a number of UK Universities that have turned to BLE to supply a CCTV system. This system was installed in 1997 and the system has expanded ever since. In the past year (2004), BLE have also upgraded the CCTV system to a digital recording system. Work has also been carried out on converting the monitors from 21 inch screens to a large video wall, with 40 inch monitors installed, making the recording, surveillance and monitoring of security much easier.

The System Design

The CCTV system has over 100 cameras controlled from the Main Campus Security Room, with some systems controlled from individual buildings. The CCTV system incorporates and includes the latest high resolution Dome Cameras with zoom facilities.

John Prew, BLEs UK Sales and Marketing Manager adds "This is an exciting and prestigious ongoing project, that demonstrates BLE's ability to provide a cost effective CCTV system making full use of the latest technology and software".

University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham is a major University in the UK. They chose BLE to install a Smartcard Access Control System throughout its buildings which are spread across four counties in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire

The System Design
The Access Control System uses the WAN (Wide Area Network) system of the University for the whole of the Smartcard database. With over 200 readers in more than 50 different buildings and over 40,000 Smartcard users, the fully Integrated Access Control System is able to cope well with a large and demanding customer base. The Nedap system uses Smartcards with Student Photo ID, plus a Pin Code to allow high security Personalised Access Control to buildings and car parks.

The Smartcard enables students to use the one card for various needs such as Library, Student Voting, access to Computer Rooms, Student ID, Access Control and is able to extend to an electronic point of sale such as, Vending and Catering if required.

BLE’s General Manager for Sales and Marketing, John Prew adds "This is another exciting project for BLE that demonstrates our ability to provide an effective Smartcard Access Control System to one of the largest Universities in the UK.
